Hawthorn Woods came to be through a partnership between KemperSports and luxury home and residential community developer Toll Brothers. Toll Brothers was developing a community of 600 luxury homes in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and sought to create an upscale private club as the centerpiece of the development. Given the company’s successful track record of developing private clubs and its deep roots in Chicagoland, KemperSports was the ideal partner for such a project.
With the initial goal of driving real estate sales, KemperSports immediately focused on creating a modern private club experience that would serve as the center of the community, connecting families throughout the development and serving as the vibrant hub of the development. After diligently researching market and customer needs, KemperSports identified that prospective members were looking for more than just great golf, they wanted a club where they would be able to connect in a new way with their neighbors, build lifelong relationships, raise kids together, and enjoy themselves through social activities and sports.

As the centerpiece to the whole experience, KemperSports collaborated with Arnold Palmer Designs to build a best in class championship golf course that is now renowned throughout the area. In addition to the infrastructure, KemperSports created a plan to deliver comprehensive programming for the entire family, which includes a full calendar of adult and family social events.
Today, over 10 years since its inception, Hawthorn Woods is a thriving club that serves as a community hub and a social outlet for active families. Member satisfaction as the club has never been higher and members are particularly pleased with the club’s diverse programming, events, camaraderie, and multitude of activities. The golf course has matured nicely as well, with some of the best greens in the area and a course that has hosted several Illinois Open Championships, the most prestigious event on the Illinois PGA calendar.
